A single space is experienced differently by each person who enters it. Yet each element within that space has its own character, its own voice. When brought together, these elements should be able to engage in a conversation with one another, creating a discourse within the space they occupy. This is a manipulated photograph, where the dialogue is open to interpretation — inviting an understanding of each element's individuality within the collective interior. This piece forms part of ongoing research into the interior of the Japanese Teahouse, exploring how photographic collage can deconstruct and reconstruct spatial experience. By isolating and repositioning elements of the interior, the work investigates the phenomenological relationship between object, space, and the observer. The resulting collage becomes a layered meditation on how we perceive and assign meaning to architectural space. The work is a photographic collage study combining digital manipulation with drawn elements.
