Discourse in Spatial Vacuums: Drawing Ground Levels initiates a research-based investigation into the architectural ground plane as a generator of spatial experience and discourse. The ground level — so often taken for granted — is reexamined here as the primary datum from which spatial vacuums emerge, compress, and expand. Through a series of observational drawings made in the Czech Republic, the work documents found spatial conditions at ground level: thresholds, passages, courtyards, and the ambiguous zones between public and private. Each drawing attempts to capture not just the geometry of these spaces but their atmospheric quality — the way light falls across a floor plane, the texture of worn stone, the shadow cast by a low overhang. This series marks the beginning of the Discourse in Spatial Vacuums body of work, establishing the methodological and conceptual framework that the subsequent pieces develop further. Drawing here functions as both research tool and final outcome — a way of knowing space by inhabiting it through the act of representation.
