The Japanese teahouse establishes one of architecture's most deliberate dialogues between background and foreground. Every element — the garden stone, the overhanging roof, the nijiriguchi entrance — is considered in relation to what lies behind and ahead of it. Depth is constructed not through scale but through layering, restraint, and the precise placement of elements that draw the eye through the composition. This study investigates how the teahouse orchestrates spatial depth through the relationship between foreground and background elements. The drawing explores how texture, shadow, and material contrast create a sequence of visual planes that guide the observer through space. Rather than a single focal point, the composition offers a journey — from the immediate tactile presence of the foreground to the atmospheric suggestion of what lies beyond. The hand-drawn collage was created using ink on pure white silk and polyester paper. Dimensions: 297 x 210 mm.
